Frequently Asked Questions About Group Sessions

Five cats arranged in a rough circle on a rug

Our group sessions are among our most popular and least understood services. Below are the questions we receive most often, answered with care by whoever was awake.

How many cats are in a group?

Between three and seven, depending on mood and whether anyone has brought a box. Groups of eight are not permitted, since the eighth cat always becomes a problem and then, in time, the leader.

Do I have to speak?

No. Many members spend the first four sessions looking at the wall. This is considered participation, and in some cases leadership. You may speak whenever you are ready, which is usually just after the session ends and the counsellor is trying to leave.

What if I disagree with another member?

We encourage respectful disagreement, expressed through a series of slow blinks, and, where necessary, a firm hiss. Violence is not tolerated, but a brief, dignified swat at the tail of an offender is considered a communication tool and not a matter for the board.

Is it confidential?

Whatever is said in the group stays in the group, unless it is about food, in which case it is repeated to everyone, at once, loudly.

What do we do in a session?

Each week there is a theme. Recent themes include Letting Go of the Red Dot, Forgiving the Vet, and Why Was I Not Consulted. Members sit in a circle, which is difficult for cats, and so a rough shape is accepted, usually a lumpy triangle.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, but we cannot guarantee the friend will stay your friend. Group work reveals things, and often what it reveals is that your friend takes the best spot every time.

What does it cost?

One session costs one tin, or a decent sized fish, paid to Nurse Wobbles in advance. Members who arrive late are billed the same, plus interest in biscuits.

Is this real therapy?

No. Pawsitive is a satirical business, our counsellors are fictional cats, and nothing here replaces professional help. If you need real support, please talk to someone qualified. If you need a snack, we may be able to help.
